Happy 144th Canada!

Today is Canada Day which celebrates the forming of the Dominion of Canada on July 1st 1867.  That year the British North America Act was enacted(today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which united three British Clonies into a single country, called Canada, within the British Empire.  Originally called Dominion Day, the name was changed in 1982, the year that Canada gained full independence from the United Kingdom.

In honour of Canada’s birthday, CBC Digital Archives looks back at some defining moments and great Canadians who have helped shape our history.
